EASTER THOUGHT #10: According to Isaiah, Jesus offered his back to the whip... gave his cheek for the pulling of his beard. Nothing hesitant or resistant here. I have set my face like flint. [Is. 50 - prophesying the Crucifixion] Nothing reluctant here. The night he was betrayed, he said, I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you...! What a statement!! Message Bible says it like this: “You’ve no idea how much I have looked forward to eating this Passover meal with you...! Never, never, never has somebody so noble, so selfless, so innocent... and yet so powerful, so capable, so dominating... willingly... no... much more than that... passionately... handed themselves over to the will of the weak and guilty who were under their control and power! Humanity has always died by default!! But not this man! Dying was his mission! A body youve prepared for me!! [Heb.] TV portrays for us heroes and champions: those who put themselves at great risk in order to save the less fortunate and helpless. But they are all weak shadows, meagerly attempting to represent the real spirit of heroism that was and is resident in Christ Himself!! (I can almost see him standing with eyes ablaze, hair blowing in the wind as he faced the challenge of the Cross!!) Spiderman doesnt hold a candle in comparison to THIS man! Superman is a weak, beggarly imitation of the real!! All that is heroic was resident within him as he offered himself in payment for us! There is nobody like him. Never has been. Never will be. Hes unique! One-of-a-kind! His name is Jesus [means One who saves...rescues... and delivers]! No other name has been given to humanity that can save it. Only this one: J-E-S-U-S!!
