EBOLA CRISIS IN SIERRA LEONE For someone like me whose heart and desires are for the people in my native land of Sierra Leone, the many deaths from the current Ebola outbreak is a matter of serious concern. People in the countries of Guinea (where it started), Liberia and now Sierra Leone are being infected and close to 700 people have died. So far Sierra Leone has had the highest number of deaths from the disease. Many well-meaning friends have asked me, “Billy are you still planning to go back to Sierra Leone?” They are surprised when I answer, “Yes, I am!” First of all my planned departure from the US is September 7th. As long as planes are flying in and out of Sierra Leone, I will return. The same God who watches over me here, will be watching over me in Sierra Leone. When my time comes to depart this life for my heavenly home, it would not really matter whether I was dispatched by a virus or by natural death. I am not being foolhardy about my life, but as I told someone I have always trusted God for my life and he has never failed me yet. People die in America and other countries who are not infected by Ebola virus. I cannot refuse to serve God where I am needed because I am so afraid my life might end. Some of you saw my post on the passing of a good friend, two Sundays ago I was in a meeting with him rejoicing in the Lord and he was talking about coming out to Sierra Leone next year. One week later he was admitted to hospital and after a few days he went to be with the Lord. I have staff in Freetown and together we are reaching people all over the country, I cannot hide in America whilst they serve, because I don’t want to be exposed to a virus and because I have the privilege to be in America. Together, we will take all the precautions we need to take, but my place is with them and others who are ministering to people in these times of crisis. If you are concerned for me, pray for me and all who are being affected by this deadly virus. We need the mercy of God to see us through this crisis. Our people need to be educated and kept informed so that they can prevent being infected and so that they will seek treatment at the very first sign of trouble instead of waiting till it becomes a crisis (The usual pattern in Sierra Leone). 1. Pray that the government would do everything possible to keep people informed. 2. Pray that people would overcome superstitions and fears which are spreading the diseases and causing more deaths than would have happened. 3. Pray for health workers who are on the frontline as they battle to save lives and are always at risk of being infected. Thank you for your concerns. Billy
