EBOLA SCARE AND OUR CHILDREN Naij reader Michelle Dubem-Nwachukwu writes from Port Harcourt: We, the parents and guardians of Nigerian children, are not comfortable with the Governments decision to recall students earlier than planned. Especially if this decision is borne out of pressure by proprietors of Private Schools in Nigeria, as it is widely publicized. We may not have a regulatory body to speak for us but we have decided to exercise our rights as parents to keep back our children at home until at least the first or second week in October when all surveillance cases have been cleared. Right now there are about 500 cases of surveillance in Port Harcourt! It is alarming to think the magnitude of harm that could come to the nation if this pestilence, Ebola, should break out in just one school! Parents, exercise your rights and speak up! Would we not rather have living children who missed a few weeks of school than an epidemic in our hands? Parents! Again I say speak up not just in little cliques but openly. Signed for and on behalf of All Concerned Parents! Is it safe for our children to resume schools on September 22, or would you suggest to extend the home period to October? Why?
