EBOLA VIRUS: THE TRUTH, THE LIES AND THE HYPE! -By Timothy Ofoegbu. Some people are causing mass hysteria as if the Ebola virus is a kind of chemical weapon of mass destruction or a nuclear bomb. I am writing this post from Congo where the disease started in 1976 and I can tell you that the people here are living their normal lives and are more worried about malaria than Ebola. There have been more than 3,270 reported cases and more than 2,000 deaths since the discovery of Ebola in a world with 7.2 Billion People. Ebola is extremely infectious but not extremely contagious. It is infectious, because an infinitesimally small amount can cause illness. Ebola could be considered moderately contagious, because the virus is not transmitted through the air. The most contagious diseases, such as measles or influenza, virus particles are airborne. Humans can be infected by other humans if they come in contact with body fluids from an infected person or contaminated objects from infected persons. Humans can also be exposed to the virus, for example, by butchering infected animals. COULD THIS BE ANOTHER VIRUS HYPE? Lets count how many VIRAL OUTBREAKS that could have killed off the World by now: 1. Hanta Virus - Didnt happen as hyped by media 2. AIDS- Happened but was controlled 3. Bird Flu- Didnt happen as hyped by media. Nigerians grew up with the birds’ flu 4. Swine Flu- Happened mildly, but was not nearly the disease everyone feared 5. Every new strain of Flu- Gets hyped by media every flu season. 6. Lassa Virus- Bad virus, but hardly an Epidemic 7. World Health Org says that Malaria kills more than 500,000 people every year. 8. Boko Haram had killed more people in 3 years than Ebola in 38 years GUESS WHAT!!!!? You are reading this... which means one thing... you are alive. Be careful so that you will not contact the disease but NEVER DIE BEFORE YOUR DEATH DUE TO FEAR OF EBOLA. Fear not my bug-weary friends, EBOLA VIRUS (and the 5 strains of it) are NOT going to kill the planet off! Also, important to note, EBOLA HAS BEEN AROUND SINCE 1976!!! NOW.... since every social media site, forum, news agency and TV channels are promoting and hyping the DEATH OF THE WORLD POPULATION from Ebola, I am sorry to say I am here to BURST that bubble. It is NOT going to happen!!! M.
