ECP cancels pre-poll postings in Shikarpur. Karachi The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has ordered the termination of all recent transfers and postings of officers in Shikarpur prior to the by-polls scheduled for August 22. The order came following a meeting of the leaders of Pir Pagara-led Pakistan Muslim League-Functional at the chief election commissioner’s office in Clifton on Tuesday. The PML-F delegation, comprising Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh, Ghous Bux Mahar and Abid Jatoi, met Fakhruddin G Ebrahim and expressed their reservations over the transfers and postings of election staff before the upcoming by-election, terming the appointments “pre-poll rigging”. Declaring the Sindh government’s move a “violation of rules”, the election commissioner ordered the cancellation of all transfers and postings as the election date had been already announced. “Any administrative changes now will cast doubts on the results of the by-poll,” he observed. Talking to the media later, the PML-F leaders said they had conveyed their reservations to the election commission about the upcoming by-poll on PS-12 Shikarpur, where postings were announced after the election date was decided. They claimed that several fake cases had also been registered against the Functional league leaders. Sheikh said the CEC had assured the party of addressing their concerns. He said the party had also called for deployment of soldiers from the election commissioner, who assured them that all genuine demands would be taken into consideration. The PML-F has been consistently demanding the authorities should organise by-polls under the supervision of army for transparent, free and neutral results.
