EDCF-funded Equipments, Key to Passengers Recovery from Bus Accident LAO CAI – On September 1st, a sleeper bus carrying 53 passengers fell into a 200m-deep ravine on its way from Sapa, in the Bat Sat district of the Lao Cai province. It has been reported that at least 12 died and 41 were injured. Survivors suffered from various bone fractures and internal injuries in the heart and lungs. Most were taken to the Lao Cai General Hospital and 15 severe cases were sent to the hospital’s intensive care unit. However, with the help of specialized equipments, the doctors of the Lao Cai General Hospital could promptly diagnose the injuries and provide emergency aid, saving an 8-hour journey to Hanoi for treatment. Deputy Director Hieu of the Lao Cai General Hospital said that victims who needed urgent treatment would have suffered significantly worse and even have their lives threatened without the CT and MRI. The vice minister of the Vietnam Ministry of Health has also expressed gratitude to the CEO of the Yuil Trading Corporation for contributing to saving the lives of the Vietnamese people through the supply of high-quality equipments. The Lao Cai General Hospital has been largely supported by the Economic Development Cooperation Fund with the amount of $13.6 million to provide for medical equipments from Korea and services for training and consulting. Marked by the Korean ODA, the Lao Cai General Hospital stands as a symbol of friendship between Vietnam and South Korea. As it continually provides treatment for the people of Lao Cai, the hospital will draw closer to its vision of ensuring the equality and effectiveness of health care for all.
