EDDIE WHITE CAPTURES SKYLINE SPORTSMAN VICTORY “Fast” Eddie White drove to victory in Saturday night’s Sportsman division feature at the Skyline Raceway, his first Skyline Raceway victory of the season. Newly crowned IMCA Modified champion Chris Fleming returned from his trip to the SuperNationals in Boone, Iowa to record his seventh win of 2013. Brenton Miller topped the Pure Stock feature for the fifth time in 2013 while Lanson Albanese won his third Junkyard Dogs feature. Rich Wagner brought out a new car and drove it to victory in the Junkyard Pups feature, his first win of 2013. Tom Collins vaulted to the lead at the drop of the green flag to start the 25 lap Sportsman feature with eventual winner Eddie White dropping in behind. Collins would lead the early stages of the event as White began to apply pressure to the rear deck of the Collins mount. White would make the winning lass on the ninth circuit as he drove past Collins to take over the race lead. While White was now the race leader, Collins was making a determined effort to retake the lead as he was pressuring White high and low as the race passed the halfway point. The battle at the head of the field continued to be a good one as Collins proved to be a formidable challenger as he kept the pressure on White, looking both high and low for an opening. The veteran White was up to the challenge, however, as he was able to hold off Collins’ repeated challenges to drive under the checkered flag and secure his first Skyline win of 2013. Collins strong drive ended with a solid runner-up finish with a fast closing Jim LaRock finished third. Andrew Reeves finished fourth with Rusty Smith coming home fifth in the final rundown. The 20 lap IMCA Modified feature saw Skyline’s two most recent IMCA Modified champions lock up in a titanic battle for the feature win. With the feature lined up by the luck of the draw, Chris Fleming and Kevan Cook, both just back from competing in the IMCA Nationals in Boone, Iowa, drew the front row starting positions. What would follow was 20 laps of side by side racing between two championship caliber drivers as the two put on a show for the Skyline fans. After 20 laps of racing it was Fleming coming out the winner of a very entertaining and exciting race by a narrow margin over Cook. Matt Roberts ran third most of the race, but his path to a top five finish was derailed by an errant lapped car just two laps from the finish. Dan Searls took advantage of Roberts’ misfortune to finish third ahead of Bumps Scutt and Jared Spaulding. Brenton Miller drove to victory aboard the Boynton Motorsports #3L to record his fifth victory of 2013. Miller started eighth on the field but worked his way steadily toward the front of the field, driving past early leader Scott Smith to take over the lead for good just past the halfway point of the event. Smith claimed a runner-up finish ahead of newly crowned track champion Earl Zimmer. Jake Fowlston finished fourth with Tommy Paige completing the top five finishing order. Lanson Albanese drove to his third feature win of the season in the 15 lap Junkyard Dogs feature. Albanese held off a determined challenge from Bill Flask, who brought out a new car to replace his trusty Camaro. Flask finished second in his first ride in the new car. Mill Leonard, Cody Brown, and John Miller completed the top five finishers. Rich Wagner brought out a new car on Saturday night and promptly drove the new car to his first feature win of 2013. Wagner held off a late charge by newly crowned track champion Isaiah Forward to earn the win with Forward crossing the line in second. Phil Burns finished third ahead of Brett Stevens and 2012 Young Pups champion Timothy Vandermark, who made his first start of 2103. This Saturday night will be the final event of the 2013 racing season at Skyline, the traditional Turbo Blue Finale. The IMCA Modifieds take center stage for the annual running of their $1,000 to win Pistol Chassis Classic. The Sportsman, Pure Stocks, Junkyard Dogs, and Junkyard Pups will all be on the card as well in extra distance, extra money events. A special 4:30PM starting time has been announced for this very special event with pit and grandstand gates opening at 2:30. Race teams are advised to arrive early, as pit parking is always at a premium for this big event. For all the latest information, log onto Skyline’s website at skylineracewayny. .
