EDGAR LUNGU LEADS IN OPINION POLLS If Elections were held today, Edgar Lungu would win by 42.5% As a party the Patriotic Front (PF)is a preferred party by 44.5%. Hakainde Hichilema as a candidate scored 31.3% The United Party for National Development (UPND) as the most preferred party scored 27.6% ________________________________________________________________ Patriotic Front President Edgar Lungu and the Patriotic Front are leading as the party and candidate that are likely to win the upcoming elections. An opinion poll conducted by a reputable international poll company conducted for private firms show that the Patriotic Front is the most preferred political party in the country leading by 44.5%. The United Party for National Development (UPND) scored 27.6%. The Movement for Multiparty Democracy scored 14.7% followed by the United Independence Party (UNIP) and the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD). Others are National Restoration Party (NAREP) scoring 4%, Alliance for Democracy (ADD) 1% and National Movement for Progress also 1%. The Patriotic Front was leading in six (6) provinces starting with Central (35.6%), Copperbelt (57%), Eastern (34.6%), Luapula (84%), Lusaka (49.2%), Muchinga (78%), and Northern Province (60.6%) provinces UPND was leading in three (3) provinces Southern (72.4%), Western (56.9%), Northwestern (71.4%). MMD performed well in Eastern Province 40% (Rupiah Banda factor), Southern Province 11%. And when respondents were asked about their preferred candidate if elections were held today, respondents preferred Edgar Chagwa Lungu by 42.5% followed by Hakainde Hichilema 31.3%. Rupiah Banda 12.2% and Nevers Mumba at 9%. Although the FDD scored 1%, as a candidate the FDD leader Edith Nawakwi scored 9%.
