EDO STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY CRISIS (A dangerous twist) The crisis rocking the the EDHA has taken a very dangerous dimension. I am yet to recover from the shock I received following the picture I was greeted with yesterday while listening and watching the news. What I saw was brutish, evil and is capable of redefining politics in Edo State forever! Meanwhile the crisis rages on as the PDP legislators have vowed to commence sitting in the hallowed chambers even under the rain come Monday the 7th day of July, 2014. What on earth could have informed the gory scene that we all saw yesterday? What madness could have engulfed the head of those who engineered the removal of the roof housing our reprensentatives in a raining season? This madness taken too far must not be allowed to go unpunished as the state cannot afford to be perpetually held hostage by these individuals. Clearly, embattaled Speaker Uyi Igbe and other supposed lawmakers where caught on camera actively supervising the vandalisation and resistance to stopping the act of vandalisation by the police. According to Uyi Igbe, they were renovating the complex when unknown policemen suddenly appeared to stopped their work. Kabiru Adjoto was particularly furious at the so called police interferance. He was seen issuing threats and outrightly calling for war. I must clearly state here that the patience of the average Edo man has been taken for granted too far and even the most vocal supporter of the APC who is rational cannot but agree! The attempt to remove the entire roof of the complex was done to prevent further sitting in the complex and to justify the illegal gathering in the name of plenary at the Edo State Government house. Shifting of grounds by both factions and geniune reconciliatory efforts on their part particularly on the part of Mr Uyi Igbe could have saved the state, the embarrassment and waste of public funds, their action has caused. Annoyingly, the public is being sold a very stupid dummy that the complex is undergoing renovation. Apart from this display of gross stupidity and foolishness, the first question to ask is, if Uyi Igbe can embark on such renovation of his personal house during the raining seaason when no human has control of when the rains will fall? It does not matter to him that the hallowed chambers is sound proffed and the damage the rains will do to the facillities of the complex. Renovations on the complex are normally captured in the budget and to the best of my knowlege, no money was appropraited for such exercise. Where is the money used in the vandalisation of the complex in the name of renovation coming from? Besides this same complex was renovated a little close to two years ago with millions of tax payers money. Even at that, both factions sat in the hallowed chambers immediately after they engaged themselves in a free for all fight and there was no damage to the facillities. The micro phones and every other facillity were in perfect condition. One is therefore surprised that a large scale renovation is suddenly deemed to be neccessary that will warrant the removal of the Anthony Enahoro complex. What a waste! Mr Uyi Igbe must be told in clear terms that what he did was nothing short of destruction and vandalisation of Government properties that is punishable in law. I therefore call on the commisioner of Police to immediately arrest and commence the prosecution of Mr Uyi Igbe and whoever is an accomplice in this grievious crime against the people; for not doing so, will mean he aided and abeitted Mr Uyi Igbe in breaking the law. If however, the police is relunctant in arresting these bunch of criminals, the EFFC should be made to come in as what happened yesterday could also come under Economic crime. Some of these people must be sent to jail if sanity is to return and to prevent future occurance. No one is above the law! Mr Uyi Igbe must equally be told that he is not a demi God, because he was elected speaker by the Grace of his colleagues. He is just first among equals. He was not elected speaker by his costituency but as an ordinary member of the House. He must comport himself and stop arrogating strange powers to himelf. Was the issue of renovation or relocation of the house debated on the floor of the house? Where did he derive his unilateral powers from? He has by this action removed the roofs from each of our individual houses in Edo State because what is the need having a roof over my head while my representive has no roof over his head. The Police must keep an eagle eye on the complex because I will not be surprised if attempts are made to burn down the complex like the fate that befell the Edo State Ministry of Education sometime ago. I am begining to seriously suspect the motive in asking the Police to stay off the premises of the complex by Mr Uyi Igbe and his APC friends. The police must not allow itself to be blackmailed into abandoning its security responsibility to the people by the pernicious accusations levelled againt them by these group of despots and desperados who call themselves honourable men. The likes of Mr Uyi Igbe and Mr Kabiru Adjoto must now come under very intense security search light with a view to monitoring their activities to check any neferous plans as they can nolonger be trusted. At the fullness of time however, the electorates will take their pound of flesh from these dishonourable men for this act of desecration. Mr Uyi Igbe has been galloping from one illegality to another ever since this crisis he originated started. The latest being the forgery of an individuals signature to get the required number of sixteen to impeach the deputy speaker. Curiously, there has been no response from him ever since Mr Abdul Razak Momoh raised that alarm over three days ago! Rather, we have now being gifted with an unpleasant scene of the vandalisation of our House of Assembly complex in the name of renovation. Mr Uyi Igbe has fourteen other legislators with him making fifteen. With this number, he can always have his way with anything even with motions requiring simple Majority votes. The PDP on the other hand, has just nine legislators on its fold and can hardly be a threat to the activities of the house. Why not let them be if the real reasons behind this crisis is not to punish the decampees as alleged by the PDP legislators. Isnt it curious that Hon Edoror who also decamped to APC from the PDP has been illegally rewarded with the position of Deputy Speaker while his colleagues on the other side are being pursued from pillar to post. Let the public be the judge..... OMOKHUDU OJEABUO ODION ( Former Edo North Senatorial Chairman, Defunct ANPP)
