EDUCATION IS THE KEY TO ENDING CYCLES OF POVERTY Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform and Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Brigadier David Granger, on Friday 29th August 2014, visited Perth Village, Mahaicony, a farming community in the Mahaica-Berbice Region (Region No. 5). During his visit Brigadier Granger met with Sharon Price (who has 15 children) and presented her with a hamper of food-stuff on behalf of the People’s National Congress Reform. The Opposition Leader told Price that education was the key for her and her children to break the cycle of poverty. He said that it was important that all children in Guyana finish their primary education and that “It is equally important for children to complete their secondary education in order to be eligible for employment opportunities and in preparation for higher learning; education is the key to breaking cycles of poverty”. Sharon Price who has 15 children thanked the PNCR and the Leader of the Opposition for their generosity to her and her children. During the visit to Perth, the Leader of the Opposition also donated footballs to two youth groups. Brigadier Granger challenged the young villagers to find and develop a playing field where they could hone their talents and build a strong team. He said that once the youth were prepared to help themselves, the PNCR would help them by providing the necessary equipment and expertise. The Leader of the Opposition also took the opportunity to have a road side chat with villagers to inform them of current issues facing the nation. Brigadier Granger told them that the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) faced a vote of No Confidence in the National Assembly and National and Regional elections were imminent. The Opposition Leader said that the people of Guyana have lost faith with the PPP/C and that party’s failure to govern in the best interest of all Guyanese. Briagdier Granger said that he was confident that A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) would form the next Government of Guyana and promised that the Partnership would establish a Government of National Unity. The Leader of the PNCR was accompanied by Ms. Jennifer Wade, MP; Ms. Carol Smith-Joseph and Gloria Lindo-Wolfe, Regional Councilors Region 5; Mr. Keith James; NDC Chairman Hamlet-Chance; and Ms. Desiree Ann Bacchus, Chairman Perth PNCR.
