EDUCATION RELATED AND KINDA LONG...The demise of the community came in several steps. Two of them being the promotion of fornication and relying on the system to educate our children. Going to school was a means to an end, not the end itself. I have home educated my children for 16years. My oldest went to public school until she was in the 2nd grade. After a devastating event took place in school I brought her home. I home schooled her until high school. During that time I researched many educational methods and styles. And after much research,practice and study I have come the opinion that the Dolch Sight word has to be one of these worst teaching tools ever. On an individual scale it may help a child here or there but on a grander scale , as city wide reading teaching method it has made our children illiterate. Removing the basics of learning phonics ( the ability to sound out words) out of the system and instilling reading words upon seeing them means that children will have a limited reading vocabulary. With the Dolch Reading method students are given a list of words to remember. Each year they are given a new list meaning their vocabulary only grows maybe by 100 or 200 words a year. Which means your childs vocabulary by 8th grade if they or you have not taken initiative to tutor them, consist of approximately 1600 words at best. At this point, what we have on our hands is a functional illiterate(dumb the mind keep the body strong) who is then expected to excel in high school and beyond. If we are to take back our communities , build businesses decrease crime we have to educate our children....Coming Methods you can take to insure child has better school year and actually learn something....
