EGO SLAPS FOR THE DAY Reminder 1 By Allaah! It is not permissible for you to even hurt a dog or a swine except for a just cause. So how can you hurt a Muslim? Imaam al-Fudayl ibn ‘Iyaad (rahimahullah) (source: Makaarim al-Akhlaaq [3/379] Reminder 2 A negative mind will interpret the most positive messages negatively but a positive mind extracts the best, even from a negative message. Reminder 3 A man once sought debate with Hasan al-Basri رحمه الله , al-Hasan said: I know my religion if youve lost yours, go seek it Reminder 4 If you wish to mention the faults of your friend, mention your own faults first. [Bukhari] Reminder 5 Do NOT learn knowledge to dispute over it, to show off with it, or to boast about it.... .Umar ibn Al-Khattab (RA) Reminder 6 When you see a brother or a sister acting in contradiction to their faith, be a private educator not a public tribunal. - Professor Tariq Ramadan Reminder 7 When we have a debate, discussion, or argument with someone about the Religion of Allah, The Most High, whats our intention? May Allah protect us. Imam Abu Hanifa (rahimahullah) warned his students by saying, When we used to debate, we feared that our brother would make a mistake. So we would stop [debating] before he made an error. When you debate, you are hoping that your brother will make a mistake. That is like hoping for your brother to fall into kufr. And if you debate like that, then you have already fallen into kufr. [Biography of Abu Hanifa] Reminder 8 For those who love to debate... Aisha (radi Allaahu anha) reported Allahs Messenger (sal Allaahu aleyhi wa sallam) as saying: The most despicable amongst persons in the eye of Allah is one who tries to fall into dispute with others (for nothing but only to display his knowledge and power of argumentation). Sahih Muslim - Book 034 - Number 6447 Reminder 9 Dont expose in others what you love to be hidden in you. Fear Allah. Reminder 10 Some people have the disease of criticising all the time. They forget the good about others and only mention their faults. They are like flies that avoid the good and pure places and land on the bad and wounds. This is because of the evil within the self and the spoiled nature. — Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taimiyah (ra)
