EIGHT people were awarded contracts to carry out cultivation in Juru’s Permanent Food Production Plantation (TKPM). Penang Health Committee chairman Dr Afif Bahardin said six of them would be involved in growing pineapples with the remaining two in fish rearing and raising of poultry. “The eight are part of 14 people currently contracted to work on the 115ha site which began operation a few years back. “The TKPM programme was approved by the state government to reduce the country’s dependence on imported food. The produce from TKPM is for domestic consumption. “We hope to progress towards the other TKPM in Ara Kuda, Tasek Gelugor, which presently has 30 people working on a 80ha plot.
