EKITI ELECTIONS: Fayemi, Wife Accuse PDP Chieftains Of Interference The incumbent Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, and his wife, Bisi Fayemi, have accused the Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, and his counterpart in the Ministry of Police Affairs, Jelil Adesiyan, of interfering in the governorship election. PUNCH reports that another person accused of interference in the June 21 election is a Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain, Chris Uba. Fayemi made this allegation while speaking to newsmen at his voting unit in Isan-Ekiti, Oye Local Government Area. He also described the PDP stalwarts as busybodies, noting that the matter was immediately reported to the appropriate authorities. The greatest concern has to do with busybodies who have no business in Ekiti and who are parading themselves around as agents of the Federal Government, a clear violation of the clear and complete restriction of movement that the Chairman of INEC and the IGP made very clear during the stakeholders engagement a couple of days ago in Ekiti. I think we have to keep watching. It is not over until it is over. We have a duty to continue to encourage our people to vote and stand by their votes because this is the only opportunity they have to demonstrate their preference without resorting to self help, Fayemi said. The governor also questioned the huge presence of security men in the state, saying it portrayed the state as not a peaceful one. It was also gathered that wife of the governor, Bisi, in an interview, wondered why Obanikoro, Adesiyan and Uba were allowed to move around in the state during the election with their security details. These are people who are not from Ekiti State, they have no business being here and they have been busy going around, trying to subvert the electoral process with their own policemen. We will like to see these gentlemen escorted out of Ekiti immediately so that the people of Ekiti can be left in peace to exercise their franchise, the Ekiti State first lady stated. INEC had on Sunday morning declared PDP candidate, Ayo Fayose as winner of the governorship election. Few minutes after, Governor Fayemi made a concession speech where he congratulated Fayose for his victory. The PDP candidate had since come out to say he was elected by the people of Ekiti because he is a grassroots man, promising to work with his rivals in the interest of the people of Ekiti. It could be recalled that during Fayoses first term as governor, he was impeached and subsequently charged to court for an alleged N1.2 billion fraud. Prosecutors from the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, told the court that Mr. Fayose converted the money meant for a poultry project for his personal use. The case is still in court. #EFFI
