A former senator representing Ekiti North district of Ekiti State and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Ayo Arise, has said that his reconciliation committee is making progress in bringing aggrieved aspirants of the party together ahead of the June 21 governorship election in the state. Senator Arise, in a telephone interview with newsmen on Monday, said it was time aggrieved PDP governorship aspirants in the state put the interest of the party first and support former Governor Ayò Fayose in the election. According to him, it was gratifying that the reconciliation efforts he was mid wifing along with other chieftains of the party in the state was moving fast and was yielding result. He said he had brokered truce between Fayose and one of the aggrieved governorship aspirants, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, saying “the two have decided to work together in the interest of the PDP.” Arise, who was the chairman of Senate Committee on Privatisation, said he had been mandated by the party leaders to broker truce among the contending forces, so that the party could have a formidable posture to confront the All Progressive Congress(APC) in the election. Arise said, “The party is taking ultimate steps to appease the aggrieved aspirants. I have been mandated to broker peace among them in the interest of our party. “It is on this strength that I started with Prince Dayo Adeyeye, who is a leading aspirant. We need to quickly bring him back to the party fully. “Starting the reconciliation with him does not in any way diminish the relevance of other aggrieved aspirants. We will reach out to all of them. “Our goal is to win election for the PDP. I am not doing this for the former Governor Ayodele Fayose but for the PDP. I am a party man and I have been given the mandate to bring everybody on board and this we will achieve in the interest of peace.” Speaking on the emergence of Senator Gbenga Aluko as the consensus candidate to counter Fayose’s emergence, Arise posited that “this is medicine after death because Fayose had already got the party’s certificate of return. ADVERTISEMENT “Initially, all the 13 aspirants wanted consensus but Fayose disagreed and we have to follow the party’s constitution. It was on this strength that we conducted the primaries which Fayose won. The party must put all this behind and move forward for us to be victorious in the governorship election.”!!!
