EKITI: Former Speaker to Tender an Un reserve Apologia to Ekiti People.-------------Deji Adesua The embattled former speaker of the Ekiti state house of assembly should be ashamed of himself and his uncoordinated actions that has done nothing constructive to Ekiti state but drag the state and the sensibilities of her citizens in the mud. The former speaker accused the governor Ayo Fayose of being behind his travails and removal as speaker. But this allegation is base less , as it is untrue. The event of last week was purely an internal affair of the law makers and we do not expect that if the house decides to change its leader, that it should be anybody’s problem. The law makers felt that the Omirin –led leadership as at that time was drawing the house of assembly and the people of Ekiti state backwards and as such they had to act by removing the former speaker. Ten (10) law makers sat to remove the speaker of which the constitution allows nine members to form a quorum to sit and carry out the business of the day which could include any question coming up for deliberation at the plenary. Now, think about this : If nine form a quorum it means NINE can take DECISION on A) Ratifying the appointment of commissioners. B) Impeach the speaker because in 1999 constitution section 92(2c) says the speaker can be removed by two third (2/3) majority in a situation where most members are present and section 96(1) spells out one third (1/3) to form a quorum in a situation where few members are present to take a decision and transact the business of the day, which in this case happened on Thursday. C) Approving the caretaker committee members. So, what then is the issue? If Omirin is not satisfied in returning to the house as a member , then he should go to court to seek redress and interpretation. Ekiti state has a new speaker which is recognised in the face of the law. He should not forget that he was elected to that office by the same people that removed him. He was not elected to the position of a speaker from his constituency. If the people of Ekiti are to look at Omirins many sins and misdemeanours in office which are: 1) Undermining the leadership of our Governor. 2) Verbal abuse of constituted authority 3) For abandoning his duty post without any notification to Ekiti people 4) Blatant refusal to work for the job he is being paid for with tax payers money. 5) For absconding with five assembly members to lagos without the knowledge of the state governor and Ekiti people. 6) For aiding and abetting campaign of calumny against Ekiti state government outside Ekiti. 7) Conspiring with strangers to destabilize Ekiti state. 8) For misinforming Nigerians about the state of things in Ekiti State. 9) For un authorized use of Ekiti state resources outside Ekiti and against Ekiti interest. 10) False allegations and misrepresentation of facts about Ekiti state Governor outside Ekiti. He wouldn’t even been given the opportunity to return to the house. Lastly, the former speaker should immediately tender an un reserve apologia to the Governor Ayo Fayose and people of Ekiti state for his embarrassing action. Culled From Adesua Deji Online Blog.
