EKPHRASIC (Photo-inspired Poem) I press my arms hard on my sides not to fend off the cold morning but silence, too, albeit just for few moments the hunger in me gnawing, the early doves pick up stale bread crumbs as I feel fear peck on my mind, here seated hunched, I think deeply whether my keep this day I can find, I am among the horde Jesus the Christ did say the world will have always, but, save for some, to rise above their lot is limited in myriad ways, a mere bootblack I earn only pittance and just on days that are sunny, from leather shoe users whose count dwindles every day to not so many. (Ekphrasic is an adjective form of ekphrasis or ecphrasis, a Greek noun, which means description of a work of art, possibly imaginary, produced as a rhetorical exercise, and is a graphic, often dramatic, description of a visual work of art.)
