ELDERLY WOMEN ATTACKED WITH PANGAS BY HARRISON YERI & MERCY ATIENO Two elderly women are fighting for their lives at Kilifi district hospital where they have been admitted after they were attacked and slashed with pangas by unknown assailants at Tangoni village in Mwarakaya location, Kilifi County yesterday. Jumwa Mwakwakwa, 70 and Nyevu Kafomo, 60 were attacked at around midnight at their home by a gang armed with pangas. Jumwa was slashed three times on the head and legs while her colleague Nyevu received severe injuries on her arms and abdomen. Villagers told the press that the two have been suspected of practicing witchcraft and that they have been receiving threats from youths who are also their neighbors. Kilifi county police boss Mr. Justine Nyagah who confirmed the incident said no arrests have so far been made but the police have launched investigations. Nyagah said lack of co-operation by the community was to blame for the delay in apprehending the suspects. Medical personnel at the hospital said they have successfully operated on the women.
