ELECT JOHN PETRONSKI Business Manager/ Secretary Treasurer ELECTION CANDIDATES WILL MAKE PROMISES. HOWEVER, TO FULFILL THESE PROMISES YOU MUST DO INVESTIGATIVE RESEARCH ON ANY OF THE ISSUES THAT MAY BE BENEFICIAL TO OUR MEMBERSHIP AND OUR FAMILIES! ONCE WE HAVE DONE OUR HOME WORK THEN WE CAN MOVE FORWARD AND SEEK YOUR VOTE OF CONFIDENCE. Let me elaborate a little on my campaign letter; EDUCATION – This is paramount to our success. Stewards, supervisors, apprentices; all members need to have the tools and knowledge through training programs in order to properly have our membership represented on the jobs not to mention know and understand our heritage. PERMITS - We need to explore a system for bumping permits off our jobs when we have layoffs within our local, bearing in mind of course, that we have to still maintain consistency within our owner clients needs to get the job completed. VACATION PAY - We can investigate the option to have vacation pays withheld and monies disbursed on a semi-annual basis, similar to the guidelines of Quebec Local 271. This will only be implemented after a total consensus of the membership has been taken and a majority are in favor of this change. HEALTH & WELFARE - The surplus monies in our health and welfare plan require addressing. We have to ensure the beneficiaries to the plan have the coverage’s that are more beneficial to our families. THE RAID - There is not one person responsible for defending us or holding this Local together during the raid. It was the entire membership that stood together and fought. Brotherhood and unity was the prevailing factor and this is what we should all be very proud of. PENSION - Once the pension is funded within the guidelines of the Alberta Finance, the $3.25 contributions should then be placed back on the members’ wages. ORGANIZING - We have not been proactive in organizing the non-union contractors. We will use all of our resources to combat these rat contractors that are eating our lunches. EXPOSURES - We all have to put our heads together and find a proper solution to deal with the issues of the dose exposures to our members. This is going to be a very critical problem within our local with all the work being projected in the nuclear power industry.
