ELECTION: MOST SOUTH AFRICANS ARE MORALLY & SPIRITUALLY CORRUPT Let’s face it: It is not the election result I wished for. For one, I had hoped that the ANC would have taken a huge dent in support from its previous nearly 66%, mainly due to its corrupt leadership. But that was a pipe dream. The fact that the ANC lost only about 3% of the vote, is an indication that we in fact live in a seriously divided country. That division is not mainly based on race – although that is part of the equation that the ANC encourages by its racist policies. It is mainly based on morals. Most South Africans have shown through this election that they do not care one hoot about corruption in government. It in fact shows that most South Africans are morally corrupt and that we actually live in a society that is spiritually corrupt. There will be no South African that does not know about the scandal of President Zuma and Nkandla; about Marikana; and about serious corruption on all levels of government under the ANC. Yet still nearly 63% voted for the ANC, giving it a clear mandate to continue as is. To me, that is bad news for our future. It seems improbable that we will have a change of government in the next two or three elections, as the elements that led voters to vote for the ANC, will still be prevalent for many years to come: Flip Buys, the head of Solidarity, expressed it correctly when he said that the reason is not election fraud , illiteracy , Africa , or the ANC s liberation status: “Its simply because of the ANC s strategy of co-opting of all major market segments of the electorate: * BEE for the Elite; * AA for the middle class; * Welfare for the 25 % poor; * Socialism of the Socialists , eg Cosatu and the Marxists; * Paid positions and ANC-incorporation of traditionalists ; * Racial Legislation and Transformation for the (black) Africanists; * A liberal constitution for liberal media, academic elite; * Incorporation of the old National Party order of authority; * Mixed economy for businessmen and Companies... …. This co-option strategy is not typical of the Zuma ANC, Africa or the evil Communists’ - it is typical of all Socialists – including Western Welfare States.” Call me racist if you wish, but prove me wrong first: The socialist world view is knowingly or unknowingly deeply rooted in the consciousness of most South Africans and makes an easy connection in the humanist black African concept of ‘Ubuntu’. To someone with an Ubuntu world view as a basic positive philosophy of life towards others, socialism as an economic-political-mantra seems to be a good thing, as it does not see the inherent danger of the ungodly Marxist-humanist roots of socialism. That is why so many voters in this election have opted for an even stronger message of socialist control and benefits over all sectors of South African society - by voting for Julius Malema’s EFF-Economic Freedom Front, which is hardline-socialist-Marxist based. Make no mistake: The EFF and the ANC have the same ultimate goals for society. Very little stands in the way of them cooperating in future: Together with the EFF, the ANC is able to change the constitution due to a combined majority of virtually 70% in Parliament over the needed 66%. That would not be good for any country. Does this mean that we should be pessimistic about South Africa’s future? It would be easy to fall into that trap, and decide to cop-out, to self-isolate, to leave the country, or to stop contributing in a positive manner on a personal and other levels of our society. Those who have a truly biblical world view and a calling of God on their life, know that a comfort zone is not part of the godly life. He has called us to be both salt and light – and that means engaging society where we are and where He has placed us to build the Kingdom of Christ Jesus, the Lord of heaven.. That is why we should not despise small parties who have good policies and who stand for truth and contribute to the spreading of the gospel in our country. The most important message a party such as the ACDP can give to parliament and society is “Thus says the Lord our God”. A prophetic message is needed in every institution, as both an encouragement for good government and as a warning against apostasy from God’s Word. (The leader of the ACDP Rev Kenneth Moshoe has held up the Bible in parliament during a debate with former Pres Mbeki and said: “Mr President, you should not legislate against this book..” That indicates in my view a godly calling in parliament..) Our hope in the first instance is not in the political structures and who controls them, but our ultimate hope is in the Lord our God and the eternal Kingdom of Jesus Christ. We will continue to stand for truth, make a positive contribution where we can, and pray for our country. We know God’s will will prevail. Somerset Morkel
