EMAIL FROM MEMBER: CHILD BEING BULLIED I need some advice. I think that my eldest son is being bullied. his dad and I have talked to him and he has told us what is wrong, and we are proud of him for feeling comfortable to tell us that. The thing is when we go to school to talk to the head teacher, she talks in a way that puts different ideas in his head and so my son doesnt tell her exactly what is going on. The head just says that its a clash of personalities but my son doesnt even like playing with this other boy! The head just thinks its a growing phase and that they are actually wanting to be friends, but if thats the case, why is this boy hurting my son and calling him names.... isnt that bullying? My son has changed so much. He is off his food, goes up to his room and doesnt want to come down to see us and spend time with us (I know thats normal for boys) but he is very close to his dad and didnt want to see him. He also refused to talk to his grandma, and he is extremely close to her. He refused to go and get ready for school because he was scared this boy was going to hurt him. Yesterday was the same and we had to take him in ourselves holding his hand! As a last resort we spoke to the head because we thought she would sort it, but she has almost ignored it and said that my son has admitted to lying! My son is NOT a liar. She was putting ideas into his head. If you are being bullied you cant just forget an incident that has happened, be it a week or a year ago, but she said he should. My son has changed so much and it has upset me so much that she is doing nothing to stop this bullying. You read so many sad stories about children who cant cope with bullying and Im petrified every day he goes to school now. What can I do? Who can I contact who is above the head teacher to get something done about this? I want this sorted. I dont want my son going through what I went through.
