EMAIL FROM MEMBER RE: STEP PARENT ADOPTION RIGHTS: My partner is trying to adopt my daughter. We have been together since she was 6months old & shes now 9. We have done all the social work checks/assessment etc & were about to submit the application to the court when we were informed the birth parent wasnt happy even though he has had NO contact since she was weeks old through his own choice & now we have been advised to get a lawyer. (We were self representing prior to this information) We are not entitled to legal aid & have been advised it will cost us anything up to £10,000 we feel this amount of money could be used as a deposit to buy our own house or send our children to university etc. We would like to hear from those who have been in a similar situation and how they dealt with things. Also if there is any lawyers who could give advice we would be most grateful. Thanks x
