EMERGENCY SITUATION....... INDONESIAN SOLDIERS ILLEGAL INCURSION INTO BEWANI, WEST SEPIK PROVINCE, PNG “If I was the PM, I will sever their ties and close down their Embassy and consulates in PNG and deport their ambassador” – a ‘very furious’ Belden Norman Namah said in response to a report that Indonesian helicopters carrying Indonesian soldiers entered Papua New Guinea on Sunday the 18th of January, 2015. On Sunday morning intelligence was received from a source describing an ‘Emergency Situation long Border’. The source said ‘This morning 6 o clock 2pla Joppa (helicopter) from Indonesia Army dropim Indo Soldiers long wara Bewani na all asples olgeta runway long bush, mekim situation very penik’. (This morning at 6 am two helicopters from the Indonesian army dropped off Indonesian soldiers at the Bewani River and all the local people ran away into the bush (jungle), making the situation very panicked.) OPM soldiers (The Liberation Army of West Papua) were said to be alert to the incursion and that it looked like a big fight would occur. At the time, the situation on the ground was described as ‘very hot’. ‘Please we need support if sampla samthing kamap’, the source also said. According to another source the landing of Indonesian troops on PNG soil ‘made everyone in there fled to the bush’. West Papua freedom fighters are believed to have been ‘on red alert’ monitoring the movement of the Indonesian soldiers who were reportedly dropped off at Bewani and were reportedly ‘stopped to engage into any hostile situation’ with the Indonesian soldiers. Vanimo-Green MP Hon. Belden Namah, who is from Bewani, after being asked to confirm the intelligence report advised: “I checked home and confirmed that YES Indonesian military helicopters did fly over Skotchio and Bewani.” The accuracy of the intelligence report that Indonesian soldiers actually landed on PNG soil on Sunday morning is believed to be 100% factual. It’s certainly not the first time Indonesian soldiers have trespassed on PNG soil. Belden Namah, who has in the past particularly as the Leader of the PNG Opposition spoken out a number of times in support of the West Papuan Freedom Struggle said: “Our successive governments have been insensitive of the issues on the PNG/Indonesian border. Successive governments have turned a blind eye on plight of PNGeans living along the border especially their security and welfare. I have not seen any clear national and foreign policy by any government. If any they have been very passive. There is also no clear policy on our Melanesian brothers and sisters (West Papuans). We watch ignorantly as they are being slaughtered and massacred by the merciless Indonesians.” When asked how he felt about the report that Indonesians illegally entered his ‘home turf’, Belden Namah, who technically is still the Leader of the PNG Opposition until such a time the election of a new Opposition Leader is ‘recognised by the parliament’, said “I am very furious. This is an act of war. Who are they to continue this act of intimidation? This MUST STOP!!!” “If I was the PM, I will sever their ties and close down their Embassy and consulate in PNG and deport their ambassador.” Are the Indos still there? I asked a source yesterday. Source: Bewani Wara and village Kiriku. Me: The Indos are still there in PNG territory? Source: All go out lik2 tasol still close long wara Bewani. Source: 6 soldiers still on the red line. The Indonesian intruders are believed to be still in West Sepik Province. What has the PNG government done about it? Has any diplomatic protest note being lodged over the incursions into PNG sovereign territory last year in Western Province and also over the 2013 report about the presence of an Indonesian military base at Torasi River (Bensbach River) in Western Province? If the PNG government is incapable of ensuring that even a simple diplomatic protest note is lodged over this latest report and a formal apology is received from the Indonesian government then Papua New Guineans must stand up and protect the sovereignty of Papua New Guinea by protesting very loudly and strongly. Enough is enough. People cannot ‘watch ignorantly’ na pasim maus istap and allow the government of Indonesia to get away without being rebuked in the strongest possible terms and continue to violate the sovereignty of Papua New Guinea whilst killing our brothers and sisters for wanting to be FREE!!! Papua New Guineans must demand nothing less than a formal apology from the new Indonesian President Joko Widodo (pictured), elected President of the Republic of Indonesia on October 20th last year, who must also ensure that the soldiers who entered Papua New Guinea territory on Sunday are identified and dismissed from the Indonesian army IMMEDIATELY. Otherwise close down the Indonesian Embassy in Port Moresby and the Consulate in Vanimo permanently and tell them to get out and stay out. Apologize Joko Widodo on behalf of your people to the people of PNG
