EMPLOYMENT 67 TRIBUTE Today the 26th day of February, 2014 makes it seven years. For it was on this day, seven years ago that he who once walked the face of the earth would walk it no more. Enter Chief David Robert Lawson Jack oon. In the early 70s, he faced his most tempting and trying test. As the head of National Emergency Relief Agency NERA, he got marching orders from the then Head-of-State General Murtala, Mohammed to bring home Nigerians from Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. Tonye Jack, his daughter, puts it this way: Nigerians in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea were in a dire straits. General Murtala Mohammed....gave him a blank cheque and asked him to save oppressed and starving Nigerians.... Mission accomplished and the balance is returned to government coffers Jack T. (2007) It was a blank cheque he got! He could have diverted those millions, acquired vast properties in Nigeria and abroad but he chose not to! Because for every naira stolen, a Nigerian somewhere is deprived of the dignity of living! That is what makes him GREAT EMPLOYER! His juniors by far were helping themselves to the nations wealth but not DAVID JACK! For his service to Nigeria, he got the National Honours of OFFICER OF THE ORDER OF THE NIGER; OON He rose to the very top in the federal civil service of Nigeria. For those who read employment 66 posted yesterday, we talked about the cabal! He neither belonged to cabal nor started one, yet he rose to the very top! How? 1 He did his demanding job diligently. A job that took him round the world, representing Nigeria in conferences. He was in Philippines, Venezuela,Mexico, U. K., Bulgaria, Ghana Ethiopia etc. 2 When he gets to work every morning, he would pray before the days task! He never kept a mistress! He beloved in books! He read them, then built a library of them and wrote one: SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT LEST WE FORGET PEOPLE FIRST! He dedicated that book to his father with this words : Who Thaught Us By Example: People Are Human Beings,They Are Gods Children, Positions of Authority Are for Selfless Service Jack D. R. L. (1998). His passion for books was so strong, he influenced his wife to write one, and one of his children wrote another for him at his death! Two of his children have built their own personal libraries, and one was a legal draughtsman, for Jigawa state,North West Nigeria. He stands tall as the mentor of the writer of the employment series, for he WAS MY FATHER! He was the lone actor of the worst movie I ever saw: WATCHING YOUR FATHER DIE . That movie debuted on this day 7 years ago, it was for private viewing; just my mum and i. I still have it. He welcomed me to the world of the living on the 23rd of July, a day after his birthday, I saw him off to the world of the dead. On this day 7 years ago, i had the honour, though a sad one of taking him to the airport of the dead; Im told that airport is called the mortuary! For his last trip to mother earth.
