EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY AT CARE ZAMBIA CARE, an International Non-Governmental relief and development organization with various projects in Central, Copperbelt, Eastern, Muchinga, Luapula, Lusaka, Northern, North-western, and Southern provinces of Zambia, has the following vacancy in Lundazi under Nutrition at the Centre Project: Development Coordinator - Environmental Enteropathy (EE) Job Purpose The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and overseeing the health research in collaboration with Cornell University including quality reporting and other deliverables. Overview of study Environmental Enteropathy (EE) is a pathologic condition resulting in malabsorption of nutrients leading to poor growth and cognitive development in children. Several African studies found EE to be nearly universal in infants. A Gambian study attributed 43% of stunting to EE compared with negligible impact of diarrhea. CARE Zambia in collaboration with Cornell University plans to carry out research aimed to identify linkages between EE and stunting of children. Some of the Working conditions to note: Location: The position will be based in Lundazi Duration: Research is for one (1) year Specific Duties To oversee the one health research in collaboration with Cornell University To collect and analyze data with guidance from the principle investigator To maintain appropriate databases and image archives, keeping accurate written and computerized records and to ensure that these records are stored in a secure place accessible to themselves, the PI and to maintain confidentially of all electronically stored personal data under the supervision of the PI To make research initiatives and original contributions to the research programme wherever possible, and to contribute freely to the team research environment in a manner conducive to the success of the research project as a whole To prepare reports and scientific publications to disseminate results from the programme of research in collaboration with the principle investigator To attend and participate in the research activities, e.g set up of safe child play spaces. To undertake literature searches to explore potential research areas, and to be able to interpret and present the findings of the literature searches and advise the research teams appropriately regarding potential projects. To supervise and train where necessary new members of the research team. To ensure that the research project complies with ethics regulations. To keep up to date with scientific, clinical and professional issues, in particular developments in the specific subject area. To undertake certain communal laboratory responsibilities (including washing and cleaning duties), the nature of which will be discussed and agreed prior to commencement of the post, but which may need to be changed from time to time during the course of the project. To show a professional attitude to matters of environmental hygiene, organization and safety, and to observe and to take an active role in fulfilling all statutory health and safety regulations. Qualifications & Experience • Diploma in any field. Knowledge and skill • Knowledge of cell-cell communication protein complexes • Knowledge of inflammatory pathways and mediators • brush border carbohydrate chemistry • Experience with research activities – data gathering, surveys, data collation, entry/analysis, report writing • Ability to maintain accurate and up to date records • Understanding of the research process • Ability to organize and prioritize own work and organize research within the project timetable • Computer literacy • Effective team working • Good communication skills Other Attributes • Supporting CARE Zambia’s Knowledge Management Learning & Innovation (KML&I) activities through Documentation (Generation & sharing of evidence: Data, impact stories, quality reports), contribution to Facebook, Newsletters, Annual report and File notes • Ensuring that gender and power dynamics related to Nutrition @ the Centre project are taken into consideration Women are particularly encouraged to apply.
