EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Fisheries Biologist 2 The Okanagan Nation Alliance (ONA) is the tribal council for the eight Okanagan Nation communities which includes Osoyoos Indian Band, Upper Nicola Band, Upper Similkameen Indian Band, Lower Similkameen Indian Band, Penticton Indian Band, Westbank First Nation, Okanagan Indian Band and the Confederated Tribes of the Northern WA state. The ONA’s mandate is to advance, assert, support and preserve Okanagan Nation sovereignty. Further, the ONA is charged with providing members with a forum to discuss and form positions on areas of common concern. The ONA is seeking to employ a skilled and experienced individual to work as a Fisheries Biologist 2. The Biologist will undertake duties within the Upper Columbia basin, with project and work sites primarily in the Columbia area. The successful applicant should be comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, supervise field crews, be able to work independently and have excellent communication skills. Key Duties and Responsibilities: Project Management, coordinate and implement fisheries projects which will include: lake water quality sampling and analysis resident fish enumerations, invertebrate sampling project public outreach analysis and interpret monitoring data technical data entry in Microsoft Excel and Access programs Supervision and training of field crews, monitoring data and assess fish and aquatic issues in the Columbia Basin Identify and develop potential fisheries proposals and projects Preparation and review of scientific technical reports Other duties as required Qualifications and Experience: A Bachelor of Science degree in a natural resources related field with a minimum 3 years fisheries experience Demonstrated experience presenting at workshops/conferences, overseeing of work plans, field work, reporting and budgets, experience in fisheries scientific sampling theory and techniques for e.g. fisheries stock assessments and technical writing A reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license are requirements First Aid Level 1 and Transportation Endorsement is an asset, must be comfortable and feel safe working in and around rivers, streams and lakes Swift water Safety Certification, Marine Emergency Duties (MED A3), Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP) certification, backpack electro fishing certification is an asset.
