EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Post Title: FINANCE OFFICER Duration: 11 Months (Renewable depending on performance and funds availability) Reports To: Executive Director- Global Rights Alert (GRA) Duty Station: GRA Offices with frequent travels to Northern, South Western and Western Uganda. Starting date: June 16th, 2014 A) SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES The Finance Officer is responsible for ensuring that the financial affairs of GRA are effectively and efficiently managed to the highest standards of accountability and compliance to best practice. The Finance Officer contributes to the financial viability of the organization, carrying out key transactions to support projects and the financial system of GRA; overseeing all aspects of GRA’s financial management system; ensuring that financial information is entered and retrievable and that the organisation has sufficient financial, logistical resources to accomplish strategic and tactical objectives. He/ She then bares the ultimate responsibility, for ensuring that all financial resources are managed according to best practice and comply with GRA’s policies and the laws of Uganda. B) ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. To assist the Executive Director and Project Coordinator in Budgeting and general Financial Management of GRA, ensuring that resources are well managed and donor trust is maintained, 2. To ensure that income that is due to GRA is reliably received and accurately recorded, 3. To ensure that all transactions associated with the payroll and intra-organisation expense claims are made according to GRA policies and procedures and in a timely fashion, 4. To ensure that the financial activities of GRA are fully compliant with the laws of Uganda, donor requirements and best practice in financial management, 5. To manage the archive of financial records ensuring that all documentation can be easily retrieved as required, 6. To carry out financial assessments of potential partners according to procedures and with due diligence. C) Education / Qualifications / Training required: Essential: • Holder of a Hons degree in Finance and Accounting or other related field from a recognised university. • Professional qualification and membership of CIA, ACCA, CPA. • Minimum of 3 years working in a busy accounting team in a public or private sector environment • Excellent excel and spread sheeting skills and knowledge of Navision accounting & enterprise resource planning system. Desirable: • Work history within a nongovernmental organization, • Experience in auditing, • Good knowledge and ability to write reports in Quick books.
