EN - Martin Schulz - European Parliament President: I think those measures will touch the nerves of the otherside. We started now #sanctions on financial, energy and trade level, I think we should deepen the sanctions in a way that the other side understand that this is very serious. (...) The need of deepening the engagement of the EU institutionally and the member states for #moreGrowth. The stability and growth pact is called stability AND growth pact, and I think there is an increasing number of responsibilities on the national and on the European level understanding that stability will never become sustainable without growth, and we invest in growth. Juncker suggested the 300 billion euro on the investment programme. Then we must be practical, and transform the practical action and that will be the goal of this extraordinary Summit (of 6 Oct. tbc.) (...) Their own goal to increase at all level of the EU the participation of #women, its a goal of the EP across all different political tendencies, to increase participation of women (at high level posts), and for example to over come the #GenderPayGap, to come to equality, real equality in the EU, this is really a goal across different political tendencies. So far according to the proposals the new Commission will have a lower number of female members than the outgoing Commission. This is the responsibility of the Council, as a European organ, and of all the individual members of the Council, they have to avoid such a lack of #credibility to happen. (...) The real danger is there: is there is a lower number of women in the proposal of Juncker than in the Barroso Commission, then there is a high risk that there is #nomajority in the Parliament. (...) The economic measures, the financial measures the blocking of trade and arms, the energy supply questions, we started with such sanctions, but until today they didnt impress the #Russians so to stop their strategy and violating the suzerainty of Ukraine. So we have to take in to account to deepen the sanctions, to increase, to make it more severe. I insist, it should affect the Russian economy, so they understand that is better to cooperate than to provoke. We also should prepare our citizens that there are repercussions also on our economies. © Frédérick Moulin 2014 & © EU2014 - EP - All rights reserved.
