ENCOURAGE YOURSELF IN THE LORD: Every now and then, I hear people utter the cliché, I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. Among the thoughts that come to mind when I hear such a statement is that if there is really a wrong side to ones bed, why do they bother to keep sleeping it? Or should they make it a point to invest in another bed, one that includes a luxurious pillow-top mattress? Too often, many of us become so overwhelmed, consumed, and discombobulated over the fiery trials and challenges life occasionally deal us, that we commence to uttering clichés that, consequently, give the enemy more ammunition to emerge and wreck havoc in our lives. That is among the reasons we must be cautious about the things we profess, particularly when God sees fit to allow us to witness the dawning of a new day. In other words, we must strive to proclaim victory even when it seems we cant trace the path to victory. David, to his credit, understood this notion, going as far as to proclaim victory in the midst of a potentially fatal situation. When people spoke of stoning David to death for his plethora of transgressions and misdeeds, David, though he was as the Bible reminds us, greatly distressed, found the courage to encourage himself in the Lord. That is how God expects us to respond in the midst of discouraging situations. Instead of uttering potentially hazardous clichés, simply strive to encourage yourself in the Lord!
