ENCOURAGEMENT FOR TODAY! – 08/05/13 -- ONENESS Dear friends and family: Ephesians 5:30-31 NKJV – “For we are members of His body, of His flesh, and of His bones. ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’” From Wycliffe Commentary: [For we are members of His body] The thought shifts back and forth between the marriage relationship and the relationship between Christ and the Church. The marriage bond is stronger than that between parent and child, establishing such close intimacy as to be called in the Scripture: Oneness – unity rather than union. Comments: Just as marriage creates union and a bond of oneness, so also does the new birth. Born not of flesh, but of His Spirit. Not of the will of man, but of the will of our Heavenly Father. Our Father never intended Christians to be an imitation; we were created in His image, in His likeness, to fellowship with Him. Yahweh, our Father God, has made us as near like Himself as is possible – in the same class of being that He is Himself. Included is a free will to choose. Deuteronomy 30:19-20 TLB – “I call heaven and earth to witness against you that today I have set before you life or death, blessing or curse. Oh, that you would choose life; that you and your children might live! Choose to love the Lord your God and to obey Him and to cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days.” Our prayer: Father, may we as husbands go all out in our love for our wives, just as Christ does for the Church. A love marked by giving, not getting. Christ’s love makes the Church whole; His words evoke her beauty. Everything He does and says is designed to bring the best out of her, dressing her in dazzling white silk, radiant with holiness. So Father, as husbands, help us to love our wives in the same way as Christ loves the Church. As the Church, the bride of Christ, may we express our love back to Christ in all sincerity, purity, and reverence. From my heart to yours, Mike
