END OF AN ERA TONIGHT --- I have been the most blessed dad in the entire world for the past 11 football seasons. It was 11 football seasons ago when Brandon Smith started in first grade flag football and I started coaching his team. The next 7 years, I was blessed to have the opportunity to coach him and Payton Smith and use that bond with them two to mold them into the young men and football players that they have become today. At the time that Pate finished his peewee football career, it was time for our youngest son, Ashton Smith to begin tackle football. Tonight, Ashton played his final peewee football game in the Borger TCY Football League Championship. It has been an honor to coach and watch hundreds of young men through the years and be able to play a role in each of their lives, but to do it as the proudest dad on the earth is something words cant describe. Just some advice for dads out there, dont ever take lightly the opportunity to spend with your sons on a football field or whatever arena in life that God chooses for your kids. I truly believe that I have impacted my sons in a way that I could have done in no other way in their lives and I am eternally thankful for that opportunity with them. If somebody says that youth or school sports are not important, dont tell my sons that. Anyways, I just wanted to share how thankful that I am to The Lord for blessing me as a dad with such a wonderful opportunity to spend with my three sons over the past eleven years. Next fall will be a different experience for me on Saturdays. Im not sure what Pam and I will do with that free time.
