ENDING TONIGHT and already at $26,000.00 : Derek Jeters most famous rookie card. A legend in the modern card world, the 1993 SP Derek Jeter rookie card is to modern baseball cards what the 1986 Fleer Michael Jordan is to basketball cards and the 1981 Topps Joe Montana is to football cards, and it is to the modern hobby what the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle is to the vintage hobby. The image is as iconic as any that have ever appeared on cardboard. Only, this cardboard isnt like your granddaddys ball cards. The 1993 SP features a ridiculously sensitive all-foil front surface on to which a cut-out image of Jeter in mid-turn-two form has been printed, along with some text and Upper Decks Premier Prospects logo. So sensitive is this foil that the cards front surfaces attract fingerprints and dust like magnets, even the gentlest removal of which usually leaves minor to moderate to downright despicable scratches. Imagine, if you will, a perfectly fresh sheet of tin foil laying on a counter top for some time. Inevitably, the easily impressed foil will pick up dents and folds and bumps and imperfections of all sorts. The mere act of picking up the foil from the counter top will leave a trace of handling. The 1993 SP Foil cards are kind of like that. To say that they are condition sensitive is like saying the universe is large. The cards are also next to impossible to find with continuously Mint or better corners and edges, which is why only 14 out of nearly 11,000 examples have ever graded Gem Mint 10 from PSA, the hobbys leading authority in third-party certified cards and collectibles. Currently featured in the #2 spot in an online presentation of 15 Modern Card Prices that Will Blow Your Mind at PSACard, the last recorded PSA 10 sale fetched $33,842 in 2013. The only modern card in PSAs presentation to ever sell for a higher price was the 1979 O-Pee-Chee Wayne Gretzky PSA 10 rookie card, which realized $94,162 when it sold a few summers ago. psacard/Lists/top-15-modern-card-prices How many do you have?
