ENJOY STARRY NIGHT SKY AT KASABA BAY KASABA Bay has a holiday class of its own. It is the only holiday resort in Zambia where you enjoy water leisure sports and wildlife adventure safaris on the same day besides bird watching. The bay enjoys a rare combination of exotic natural scenery, jaw-dropping starry night - sky, crystal clear blue waters of lake Tanganyika with its golden brown sand beaches. There are also vast tracks of Safari adventures, teeming with elephants, lions, buffaloes, leopards, a variety of deer, birds, and lots of other smaller wildlife species. Nelson Mandela spent his first holiday in freedom (after 27 years in jail) at Kasaba Bay in Northern Zambia as a guest of the then President Dr. Kenneth Kaunda. Probably it is high time KASABA BAY changed the name to MANDELA BAY and mount Statues of Kaunda and Mandela on the beach side, in order to promote and boost tourist arrivals. Kasaba Bay is part of Nsumbu Game Reserve on the Southern tip of Lake Tanganyika. The lake is the longest and deepest in the world (677 kilometers long and 97 kilometers wide, 1 435 meters deep). The lake is also a home to over six hundred fish species, some of which are exotic and very tasty like tiger fish. The bay is second to none in terms of its tranquil location for those in search of sun, sand beaches and fun in the heart of tropical woody - savanna Africa. Nsumbu is also a natural wildlife habitat. The game reserve is protected by the vast lake, Lufubu River in the east and very high and rugged range steep cliffs which are part of the Great Rift Valley. Hence poaching is unthinkable. Connection to Kasaba Bay is mostly by air from Lusaka the capital city of Zambia. The second route is by speed boats from Mpulungu, the only Zambian port that links Zambia to Congo in the west, Burundi, in the north and Tanzania in the North East. Kasaba Bay has basic infrastructure which include the airport and few lodges. However potential investors like Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Holiday would transform the area into a top world class tourist destination equivalent to Ulusaba in Kruger National Park in South Africa or Mahali Muzuri in Kenya. Kasaba Bay current itineraries include wildlife safari adventures, water sports, bird watching. Water sports include lake swimming, canoeing, speed boating and fishing sports. The most refreshing and enjoyable moments are taking leisure walks, watching along the golden brown sand beaches as well as watching sun sets on the lake or tiger fishing. Whatever you catch on a starry night - sky ‘’Fish Barbecues’’ on charcoal grills with local Mosio larger, wine or any drink you fancy will definitely make your Mandela Trail worth your money and gives you a heavenly feeling. The Zambian government has allocated 46 million Kwacha (over £5 million) to upgrade the airport. Kasaba Bay awaits serious investors to create a new Tropical Woody Savanna holiday resorts in line with the ‘’New Africa Renaissance. Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Holidays at Mahali Mazuri adventure lodge in Kenya and Ulusaba Private Game Reserve at Kruger National Park in South Africa are good examples.
