ENLIGHTENMENT Enlightenment is a word that holds near-mystical eastern connotations; it means we transcend ignorance and suffering having achieved a state of pure bliss and harmony - a moment of clear brilliant clarity that changes everything about our lives and our perception of it. The very concept is so muddled by contradictory ideas coming from a range of sources and religions, attainable only for very special people who put in the utmost effort to obtain it. We buy into it even if we didn’t know the word ‘enlightenment. We spend a small fortune on Gurus, courses and workshops all promising a unique perspective to change our perception and improve our lives. We have got it all wrong if we think it can be achieved by enrolling in a yoga or meditation class. It is not about appeasing the emotional ego, but being released from it. As a concept, it has very ‘conveniently’ warped into something that fits our western values, something we lack that we must strive to obtain to be blissful. It has become another commodity that we must acquire. We view enlightenment through the same distorted lens; not realizing that it is simply a state of non-dual awareness. -Enlightened Wolf-
