ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, Imo leaders warn Araraume. See full text below ENOUGH OF SENATOR IFEANYI ARARUME’S ATTEMPTS TO DESTABLISE IMO STATE PDP: THE TRUE SITUATION OF THE IMO PDP GOVERNORSHIP PRIMARIES 1. In the past few days, leaders and members of the PDP have watched with dismay and sadness the attempt by Senator Ifeanyi Ararume to destroy the electoral prospects of the party at the 2015 elections, in Imo State. 2. It has therefore become necessary to let the entire PDP members, Imo State citizens and the general public understands the true position. 3. The PDP as a party has a Constitution that guides its activities and also Guidelines for Primaries approved by National Working Committee, Board of Trustees, National Caucus and National Executive Committee of the Party and this was sent to all the States. The same Guidelines were used in all the elections – Governorship, National Assembly, and State House of Assembly Primaries. 4. The Governorship primaries in Imo State was conducted by an Electoral Panel sent from PDP National Headquarters, made up of persons of integrity. The Panel declared Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, winner of the Governorship primaries and we have expected Chief Ararume to petition the Appeal Panel rather than engage in lawlessness. 5. The Governorship primaries was conducted in a peaceful atmosphere and every member of the party, saw it as a credible election and everybody congratulated Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, the Deputy Speaker, who emerged victorious after scoring 346 votes, to Sen. Ifeanyi Ararume’s 336 votes, Chief Ikedi Ohakim’s 213 votes, other candidates scored some votes too. The counting and announcement of Results was done before everybody, openly. 6. To our surprise, Senator Ifeanyi Ararume later rejected the results which he had earlier accepted in the field. He further, later unilaterally, declared himself winner much to the consternation of members of the party who observed the transparent, free and fair primaries that took place on Dec. 8, 2014 at the Grasshoppers Stadium, Owerri. 7. We wish to recommend that in future elections, candidates should not administer Oaths on delegates as this offends our religious sensibilities. In particular, we advise Senator Ararume to conduct himself in this regard as a distinguished Senator and should not continue to cause disaffection and division in Imo PDP. 8. At the time of screening, candidates gave an undertaking to abide by the Rules and Regulations of the party and not to go to court on party primaries, which is an internal affair of PDP. 9. It was anticipated like in all human affairs, that problems may arise, and that is why the party set up Appeal Panels, to ensure that aggrieved persons have opportunity to present their cases for review. Senator Ifeanyi Ararume knows this very well. 10. People who have continued to conduct themselves in a way likely to cause a breach of public peace by attacking the secretariat of the PDP have been mobilized, chasing away PDP staff and party members. They have threatened to destroy public and private property except Senator Ifeanyi Ararume is appointed the Candidate. 11. We therefore advise Sen. Ifeanyi Ararume a) To withdraw all the armed thugs he has deployed at the PDP Secretariat and other places b) To seek his redress through the normal PDP channels, if he has any. c) To abide by the Rules and Regulations of the PDP which he signed voluntarily, which includes a provision not to take the party to court. He has just sued PDP at the Federal High Court in Abuja. 12. If he fails to do all these, we will have no other option but to recommend that severe disciplinary action be taken against him for anti-party activities. We consequently wish to use this medium also to call on law enforcement agents to restore order. 13. We want to assure that PDP is poised to retake the Government of Imo State, and will not leave no stone unturned in dealing with any member of the party who tries to destabilise the party. 14. We the elders and members of the party representing Orlu, Owerri and Okigwe Senatorial Zones having convinced ourselves that this is a plan by the opposition to ensure PDP’s defeat, wishes to advise the National Headquarters of the PDP, law enforcement agents and the general public, to ignore the antics of Senator Ifeanyi Ararume, who lost an election fair and square to Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha and refuses like a gentleman to accept defeat. 15. This is the time for all loyal PDP member in Imo State to work together to ensure PDP victory in 2015 general elections. Owerri 1. Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Member, PDP Board of Trustees 2. Chief I. D. Nwoga, Former Minister and former PDP State Chairman, Imo State 3.
