ENOUGH OF DESPISING THOSE WHO MAKE NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS With the turn of a new year, many of us strategically adopt must-needed self-assessments, loftier goals and ambitions, brighter expectations, and a renewed sense of optimism. By and large, we refer to these things as New Years resolutions. Resolutions are inspiring and therapeutic in that they fuel our desire to refocus our focus on things and issues that could greatly enhance our lives. Conversely, how disheartening and shameful that many people deem it necessary to undermine and downplay the New Years resolutions of others as if to suggest that people who make them will ultimately place them by the wayside within months, perhaps weeks into a new year. So what if that actually happened? So what if those who make New Years resolutions wound up falling short of their goals and expectations once again. So what if those who make resolutions fail to maximize their potential. So what if those who make resolutions limp through the year overwhelmed and consumed by problems and issues, many of which perhaps were self-manufactured. As followers of Christ, we must grasp the notion that even when resolutions dont fully come to fruition, we are to, as Gods manual tells us, fight the good fight of faith. That means, among other things, that even when people fail to execute that which theyve professed by way of resolutions, they are to steadfastly exercise their faith by rededicating themselves to fulfilling such goals and ambitions. In essence, that is what fighting the good fight of faith is all about. So whenever people make New Years resolutions, be careful not to despise or undermine their ability to see from beyond where they are. Unless, of course, youre perfect like your Creator!
