ENTERTAINMENT How to achieve the perfect small wedding *Compiled By Chinenye Ugonna For PREMIUM TIMES* You want that small wedding with about 50-100 guests but not sure how to achieve that in Nigeria knowing how massive typical Nigerian weddings are. It is not our fault sometimes; our parents always want to invite the whole world if possible. Although, small weddings are trendy nowadays, they are not necessarily cheap. They also depend on one’s idea of a “small” wedding. Still, this article would give you an idea on how to achieve the perfect small wedding, no matter your budget. Make a budget: This is very important. You have to be truthful to yourself about how much you have and what you can afford. Some people plan weddings they cannot afford just to impress. Simply make a budget that suits you. Invite a few guests: You don’t want to look back at your wedding pictures and see so many people you don’t recognise. It’s more reasonable to invite mostly family and close friends; basically people who make you happy and wish you well. Don’t broadcast your wedding: If you really want a small wedding, avoid announcing it on social media. In Nigeria, you don’t neccesarily need an official invite to attend a wedding; so, the fewer people that know about it, the better. Enforce the “strictly by invitation” rule: Most people would not wish to attend a “strictly by invitation” wedding to avoid embarrassment. Also, you can hire bouncers to make sure the more nonchalant uninvited guests don’t make it in. Get married on a weekday: Avoid weekend or public holiday weddings because on days like these, people are bored and looking for entertainment. On weekdays, most people are tied down at work, meaning fewer gate crashers. Get married outside Nigeria: Remember, small weddings don’t necessarily mean cheap. Only those who can afford plane tickets will attend. Be honest to your friends and family: The say “honesty is the best policy.” This is so true. Explain your situation to your invited guests and insist on no ‘tag-alongs.’ Obviously, your parents would need more convincing. At the end of the day, love is all that matters and your big day is all about you; enjoy it. Source: PREMIUM TIMES
