ENVIRONMENTALIST SEEKS STOPPAGE OF FILLING STATIONS NEAR RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS A Kaduna-based environmentalist, Aliyu Garba, on Saturday urged the state government to stop the construction of filling stations close to residential houses. Garba, a lecturer with Kaduna Polytechnic, said in Kaduna that some filling stations were sited close to residential houses. He stressed the need for the state government to prevent environmental degradation by curbing proliferation of shops and the filling stations. According to him, unless proliferation of shops and the filling stations are curbed, effort to control environmental degradation will not be achieved in the state. He said that indiscriminate establishment of shops and substandard petrol stations around residential areas had made it difficult for authorities to supply potable water in urban and rural areas.
