EPFC 2-3 Peels Utd A 12 game winning streak came to an end on a wet Sunday afternoon at Ashfield. East Perth FC had not dropped a single point since the start of the season back in April but they ended there fantastic run with there heads held high in a battle that went down to the wire. EPFC knew what was at stake after the last time both these sides met. Peel took an early lead and it was the first time all season that EPFC had been behind in a game but on that occasion the team quickly regrouped found there form and East Perth ran out 4-1 winners. This time around things were going to be a bit different. The game started at a fast pace and within ten minutes Peel hit the net only to be ruled off side which was a fair call by the linesman .This was a statement from the visitors that they meant business. EPFC made Peel chase the ball for a ten minute spell before Barry Hanna made a chance out of nothing and scored his 31st goal of the season 1-0. Peel didnt let this dampen there spirits and kept battling away and were awarded for there efforts when there striker received the ball from 20 yards and smashed the ball home with a fine finish. 1-1 and Peel were not looking like a side who were 16pts behind the league leaders. Both sides continued having chances but this is how it finished for half time just like the previous encounter between these sides earlier in the year. HT Both sides came back out as the rain fell down and they continued proceedings . The next goal was going to be an important one and it was the visitors who secured it with there striker showing good strength pushing threw the East Perth defence and finished with style. 2-1 and EPFC went behind only for the second time this season to the hands of the same team once again. EPFC kept the pressure on and levelled proceedings through a bit of magic from Joe Dooley who took the ball past the defence and scored a screamer on his left foot.2-2 It is fair to say East Perth were the more dominant side for the most of the second half but just couldnt finish there chances .With ten minutes on the clock Peel stunned spectators with and goal against the run of play with a mix up in defence that ended up with the ball landing at the feet of a Peel striker who squared the ball to his team mate and it was a third goal for Peel. This was as many goals as EPFC have conceded at home all season. For the last ten minutes EPFC pushed to get something from the game and when Ally Harding stepped up to take a free kick from outside the box everyone held there breath as he unleashed a powerful shot only to rebound off the crossbar. The pressure continued and into the dying minutes EPFC were awarded two corners in a row and 21 players packed into the box ready to put there bodies on the line. The first corner was headed behind by a Peel defender. With seconds on the clock the second corner was swung in and found the head of EPFC centre half John Mc Carty but lady luck wasnt on his side as he watched his shot drift wide of the post .This turned out to be East Perths final attack and the game finised 3-2. Peel celebrated and rightly so as they fought hard for 90+ minutes. East Perth FC own Joe Dooley was awarded man of the match. EPFC are 6ts clear at the top with a trip to Perth Dream this weekend.
