ER Consulting and Life Healthcare manage mass casualty event in Port Elizabeth: At approximately 21:00 on the 13th March, a floor collapse in one of the large factories in Port Elizabeth resulted in multiple injuries to 84 factory employees. A total of 24 of these patients, 5 of whom were seriously injured, were transported to Life St Georges emergency department for stabilisation and treatment. A big thank you goes to Dr Eddelene Smith and her team; Dr Voeman, Dr Petersen, Dr Prag and Dr Steyn for providing much needed assistance to the emergency unit within 15 minutes of receiving the distress call. All of the patients were managed within 4 hours of the event and we are happy to report that there were no fatalities. ER Consulting would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Mr Andre Bothma and his management team at Life St Georges hospital as well as his entire nursing team for working tirelessly throughout the night to provide assistance to the factory employees. While incidents such as these are often stressful to all involved, it is comforting to know we have such a strong team at Life St Georges to rely on.
