ERNIE TAYLOR-Retired Local 440 member: Operation Mail Call! | Indy Honor Flight Indy Honor Flight Greetings to all of you. Sorry for the bulk mail, but this requires your quick response. I just heard that Ernie Taylor (along with 70 veterans) is going to be flown to the World War 2 Memorial in DC as a guest of the Indy Honor Flight Program. This is a one day trip leaving Indianapolis to DC and returning that night. They are planning to get him on the flight this fall but have him ready for the flight on 6 September. This is a really big deal as it is a recognition for troops that saved the world back in the day and let them see the memorial built in their honor. Ernie was one of the last ones that went over to Italy in 1945. He had to lie about his age in order to enlist because he was only 17, but he wanted to join because his Brother Jim was over there already. Enlist he did, but the fanfare and celebration was long over by the time he returned to the USA. He never got to experience the “kisses in Times Square” and other pats on the back that others received. I imagine that most folks had long forgotten about WWII by the time his enlistment was up. You can help make this a special day for him by writing a thank you letter---A SHORT NOTE THANKING HIM FOR HIS SERVICE WILL, I AM SURE THRILL HIM . Here is a link with the details. indyhonorflight.org/mailcall When the flight home leaves the Washington, a man yells “mail call” as they did in the War. Each veteran receives a stack of mail from his family and friends so be sure to drop him a letter by Monday so they will receive it in time (just in case he makes the 6 Sept flight.) The deadline for inclusion is Aug 29 so get them in the mail early and put Ernie Taylor name on the outside. Oct 18 and Nov 8 are the alternate dates, and he isn’t yet confirmed, but they will save your letters until he flies. Again a short note would be great. Send your letter to: Operation Mail Call Indy Honor Flight #6 9093 South State Road 39 Moresville IN, 46158 Make sure you put “Ernie Taylor” on the front lower left side on the envelope When they arrive in Indiana, all 70 of them, they are taken over to the Plainfield High School at 8:30 PM for OPERATION HOMECOMING. Here they have friends and family welcome them all home, so if you are in the neighborhood and want to be there for the homecoming, that would be a great thing. To all – Can you share this with some of the people that might know Ernie and like to participate? Thank you for participating
