ESE Phrase of the Day “Not on your Nelly!” (life) This - TopicsExpress

ESE Phrase of the Day “Not on your Nelly!” (life) This function is used in very informal English, when we REALLY don’t want to do something. In slightly less informal situations, ’Nelly’ can be replaced by ‘life’ but this sounds a little more serious. For example: A:“They say we can go and swim with sharks tomorrow. Want to come?” B:“Not on your Nelly!! OR A:“Would you like to come for a walk with me? I love the snow!” B:“Not on your Nelly! It’s far too cold out there!!”
