ESSIEN CHARITY MATCH AFRICA XI BEAT WORLD XI Michael Essien led an Africa XI select side to beat a Michael Ballack World XI select side 4-2 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday in a charity match.The match dubbed Game of Hope featured star player Ricardo Carvalho, Djibril Cisse, Lomana Lualua and Florent Malouda for the World XI side.The African select side paraded the likes of former Nigeria star Austin Okocha, Emmanuel Adebayor, the Ayew brothers-Andre, Jordan and Rahim and their uncle Kwame Ayew.Essien opened the scoring when he fired from the spot after Adebayor had been brought down in the 21 minutes.Minutes later, former Liverpool star Cisse equalized for the World XI side but George Boateng scooped the ball over goalkeeper Blackman to put the African side in the lead.On 40 minutes, Okocha blasted in from the goal line after Adebayor and round up the goalkeeper and called the ex-Bolton star to tuck in.After the break, there were a lot of substitutions and the World XI side reduced the deficit courtesy Morris.Essien was replaced by Emmanuel Okocha before substitute Haminu Dramani scored the fourth for the African select side.The game which is to raise funds for charity events by the Michael Essien Foundation was highly patronized.World XI: Blackman – M Chimbonda, VanHouoet, Carvalho, Lockwood, Jamie Larence, Morris, Michael Ballack (c), Malouda, Lomana Lualua, Djibril Cisse AfricaXI: Kingson – Eboue, John Mensah, Osei Kuffuour, Paintsil – Kwame Ayew, George Boateng, Essien (c), Stephen Appiah, Okocha, Adebayor
