ETCHE PEOPLES LIBERATION CONGRESS (EPLC) TWO POINT PRESS - TopicsExpress

ETCHE PEOPLES LIBERATION CONGRESS (EPLC) TWO POINT PRESS STATEMENT EPLC remains a profound and formidable pressure group with membership and operational base within Etche and Omuma LGAs of Rivers East Senatorial District of Niger Delta Region. Therefore acting in accordance with, and in furtherance of our inalienable right as stipulated in Chapter 2, Section 39(1) of the constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria, which is adequately in conformity with the provisions of Article 12 of the African Charter on Human and People’s Right, and Article 19 of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights, which all guarantees Freedom of Information, and to Hold Opinion without interference, we make the following two points declaration: 1. EPLC URGES DISTINGUISHED SENATOR THOMPSON GEORGE SEKIBO,MFR TO DROP HIS UNPOPULAR THIRD TERM AMBITION, FOR THE SAKE OF ETCHE INTEREST. As Ted Robert Gurr (1970) posited in his Declarative Deprivation Thesis – that the greater the dependency, however marginal, between what is sought and what seem attainable, the greater will be the chances that anger and violence will result. We as a group adopted to make this demand in a platitudinous avowal to address and redress the prolonged and protracted political uncertainty and total exclusion at both Federal and State levels targeted at the interest and development of our oil and gas producing ethnic nationality by unfavorable centrifugal and centripetal ethno-political forces. It is within the ambit of the foregoing that we unanimously and categorically beckon on, persuade, urge and call on distinguish Senator George Thompson Sekibo, MFR, the Senator representing Rivers East Senatorial District (2007-2015) to jettison his most unfortunate 3rd term ambition. He should know that the senatorial district is owned by three ethnic blocks namely: (in order of importance, population and landmass) Ikwerre with four LGAs, Etche with two LGAs and Wakrike with two LGAs, and it is only Etche that is yet to take its turn of eight years in the red chamber. It will glaringly remain an intimidating, oppressive, defective and deceptive third term agenda, since it will impede and stampede the spirited strides and struggles for Etche liberation, and further plummet the third largest ethnic block into the cavern of socio-political inequality among 18 other ethnic blocks in Rivers State. The senator must acknowledge and understand that the child is the father of the man, and that no matter the size of a cobra, not even an elephant can use it as a chewing stick. Senator Thompson Sekibo must equally know and note that his eight years tenure at the senate can be described by Etche people without mincing words, and without the fear of misinterpretation and contradiction as very fruitless and unproductive, because both LGAs in Etche got practically nothing from over N600 Million accruable to Rivers East Senatorial District as constituency project fund from Federal Government within Eight Years. As a pro-ethnic pressure front, we will doggedly and strongly refuse, refute and reject the envisaged art of “incongruous political quarantining” of Etche people by few political junkies masquerading under imprecise and shallow aspirations inveigled by Senator Sekibo’s unpopular third term agenda. We will vociferously resist and protest against any authority either political or spiritual that is pushing or backing the senator in his bid to suppress and compress Etche political will, right and privilege, and this we shall unequivocally pursue in the spirit of equity, fairness and social justice as a dissimilar tribe with over two million population. 2. EPLC ISSUES TWO WEEKS ULTIMATUM TO HON. PRINCE OGBONNA NWUKE, MEMBER FEDERAL HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. By this notice we are mandating Hon. Prince Ogbonna Nwuke to urgently and immediately release all outstanding empowerment and resettlement kits, not excluding educational grants, scholarship etc tied to the promises he made as the honorable member entrusted with mandate to represent Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency in the green chamber. Lee Kuan Yew wrote that “Leaders must have the sense of trusteeship, that they are only temporarily in charge of the destinies of their people and that their duty is not only to discharge the trust, but also to pass it on to equally trustworthy and competent hands”. EPLC as cluster and amalgam of intellectually motivated political activists and social advocates, we are aware that the Freedom of Information (FOI) law approved in May 28th 2011 is purely meant to deepened the roots and tenets of democracy, ensure good governance, and promote accountability, and it is on this fundamental premise that we anchor this ultimatum, that within two weeks, Hon. Prince Ogbonna Nwuke should and must account for over N200 Million accrued to Etche people inform of Constituency Development Fund from 2011-2014, because virtually nothing is on ground to justify what such huge fund has been used to accomplish in Etche land in more than three years. The public must know that as important stakeholders in Etche affair, it is our social, collective concern, responsibility and obligation to enquire, demand, seek for explanation and clarification on crucial and critical issues that concerns us as a distinct and marginalized minority ethnic group in Nigeria, and the motive of our position should not be subjected to vainglorious and feckless political party sentimentality or APC/PDP alignment. The Honorable member must explain how and why he short changed his constituents and the beneficiaries of his acclaimed empowerment programmes, and also clarify and lay emphasis on why he quarantined over 100 tricycles two years ago in his Port Harcourt residence, procured with Federal Government fund under 2012 constituency project, and he has until Monday November, 24th 2014 to do so. Signed on behalf of the congress of EPLC: • Comrade (Engr.) Japhet A.C. Ogbueri, ACAI National Leader • Comrade Gashon Bob Achor Secretary General • Rt. Comrade Prince S.A. Onyeche -Principal Information Officer.
