ETHOS NEWEST ARRIVAL: BABY TURTLES! Remember our friend Tessie, the snapping turtle sighted in the field on 6/10/14 laying her eggs amid the torn up plastic? While weve planted and harvested cautiously around the nest all season, the emergence of the baby snapping turtles (though anticipated) had become more or less an afterthought. Until, yesterday. Coincidentally, most of our day was spent planting the last of our fall seedlings in the same row the turtle eggs were buried. And, to our great surprise, we observed two tiny holes atop the nest, one of which harbored a tiny (about the circumference of a golf ball), precious baby snapping turtle. As dibbles fell to our sides and our knees to the ground, we paused our work and delighted in awe to the natural wonders and blessings of this beautiful world. Katie Taylor, Farmer
