Thru 12/12/2014, Reece Museum The DeVault Tavern The DeVault Tavern, a U.S. National Register of Historic Places listing, is a two-story brick tavern was built in 1819-1821 by Frederick DeVault. Brooklyn-based artist Paul Kennedy, who grew up in Jonesborough, began photographing and researching the DeVault Tavern in December 2009, just after its sale, and has continued to make photographs as the new owners began a gradual restoration. Thru 12/3/14, Reece Museum The FL3TCH3R Exhibit The FL3TCH3R Exhibit is an annual national juried exhibit focused on socially and politically engaged art. This exhibition explores the current trends and trajectory in this field and hopefully serves as an avenue or agent for societal transformation and exposure of social and political points of view. Thru 12/12/2014, Reece Museum Unicois Farm Heritage, 1945-2014: Seeds of the Past, Seeds of the Future For generations family farms helped shape much of the American landscape and its local economies. The exhibition chronicles the changes in Unicoi County, from early markets prior to 1945 through shifting markets, the rise of agribusiness, and the recent rise of creative farm economies. For more information contact Randy Sanders at [email protected] or 423-439-4392. 12/1-4/14, 7:00 p.m., Down Home 300 West Main Street, Johnson City, TN Bluegrass, Old Time, Celtic, and Country Band Performances ETSU Bluegrass, Old Time, and Country Music Studies presents a series of Bluegrass, Old Time, Celtic, and Country Bands performances at the Down Home. Each night will highlight a specific genre of music. Monday, December 1, will be Country night; Tuesday, December 2, will be Celtic night; Wednesday, December 3, will be Old Time night, and Thursday, December 4, will be Bluegrass night. Tickets are $10, and can be purchased in advance at Campbells Morrell Music, Johnson City (423-929-1082), or at the door of the Down Home the night of the show. Sutton at 423-439-4276 or at [email protected] 12/2-30/14, Tipton Gallery, 126 Spring Street, Johnson City, TN Impressions The ETSU Department of Art and Design and Slocumb Galleries in partnership with the Urban Redevelopment Alliance (URA), present “Impressions.” The exhibit reception is on December 5th, First Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m., with and after-reception party ‘The Next Stop’, at the Next door adjacent to the Acoustic Coffeehouse. The exhibit will highlight ETSU art student’s explorations of clay as a medium. “The Next Stop” portion of the show will include installations by students and a performance piece. This will begin at approximately 8:15 pm. The Tipton Gallery is open during First Friday receptions, an on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4-6 p.m. until December 18, 2014 and by appointment afterwards. Watrous has performed with virtually every major jazz band of the past 40 years along with fronting his own group numerous times. Tickets for the event are $15/$10/$5. This year includes a chamber orchestra that will be featured throughout the concert, and featured in a very special arrangement of our title song, “Do You Hear What I Hear?” Tickets are $10/$5.
