ETTARO THEATER COMPANY AND HATTILOO THEATRE PRESENT “BLACK SOAP” DRAMA THIS MONTH MEMPHIS, Tenn. (June 3, 2013) -- Flo Roach’s Ettaro Theater Company is collaborating with Hattiloo Theatre to present Memphis ’ first Black soap opera. BLACK SOAP will debut June 21, 2013 at Hattiloo Theatre, 6546 Marshall Avenue in Memphis . The drama will run for two weekends -- Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 21-23 and June 28-30. Written and produced by well-known actress and comedian Flo Roach, BLACK SOAP offers music, laughter, tears and drama. “As the world turns, the young and the restless are bold and beautiful. BLACK SOAP is bubbling all the days of our lives… and you don’t want to miss it,” says Roach. The show features well-known singing and acting talents from Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church’s UMOJA production, including Wanda Shaw, Ben Green, Carolyn Kent, Betsy Stewart Spring , Patrice Campbell, Cynthia Farmer, Kenneth Farmer, Ricky Bobo, Derek Hunter and Courtney Franklin. A perennial narrator, actress, writer, director and producer for UMOJA, Flo Roach opened Ettaro Theater Company in 2007. In 2011, she wrote, produced and starred in CALLING ALL MEN which debuted at the University of Memphis Rose Theatre during Father’s Day weekend. Also in 2011, she appeared in Steven Spielberg’s award-winning movie, THE HELP. In 2012, she served as producer for Dwayne Hunt’s play, GOSPEL ACCORDING TO SOUL. Her acting credits also include RISE UP, BLACK SNAKE MOAN and numerous commercials, stage plays, and theatrical productions. Flo Roach is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. who was recognized with the sorority’s national Shining Star Award at the Centennial Kickoff Hollywood Gala held January 1, 2013 in Los Angeles . She is a graduate of Rosa Fort High School in Tunica, MS and holds a BS degree in Business Education from Jackson State University and a Masters in Vocational Business from the University of Memphis , as well as a certification in Administration and Supervision from the University of Memphis . She is a retired teacher from Memphis City Schools where she was an award-winning vocational and theater teacher. She also worked as supervisor of student teachers at the University of Memphis . ###
