EUPOL Head of Mission visits Herat Herat. On 9 and 10 April 2014, Karl Ake Roghe, EUPOL Head of Mission, visited EUPOLs Field Office Herat. It started with a first meeting with ISAF RC-West Commander which represented an opportunity to share experiences from the recent elections and to discuss EUPOL activities after 2014. Later, Head of Mission, met Gen. Qatra, Herat Chief of Police, who praised EUPOLs support and elaborated on the recent elections and the role of the Afghan National Security Forces. General Qatra and Karl Ake Roghe continued with sharing their visions on the future of the Afghan National Police and EUPOL support in this regard. General Qatra will further discuss with Herat Field Office management future needs and activities. Karl Ake Roghe also attended a briefing by Angelo Irrequieto, Transition Advisor to the NATO Senior Civilian Representative, on elections’ results in Herat and Western Region, with an insight into local social and economic factors having which have consequences on the security as well. Herat represents a particular Afghan reality, with healthy business environment, educated population and high female enrollment in the University. In essence, the visit represented an opportunity to discuss with EUPOL Mentors/Advisors the future mandate and the ongoing revisions of the missions mandate, sharing ideas and opinions from the field.
