EVACUATION of Fermain Road / Fort Road / Fermain Lane Area: Sunday morning. Further to the discovery of a World War 2 Air Deployable Sea-Mine in the Bluebell Wood area, Guernsey Police EOD personnel have been working alongside Royal Navy EOD personnel throughout the last 24 hours. The weapon will be disposed of on Sunday, following a controlled recovery and movement to Fermain Bay, where the weapon will be taken to deep water and destroyed by way of a controlled explosion. As a result of the risk assessment made, the precautionary measure of initiating a planned evacuation of the surrounding area and route of the weapon to Fermain Bay has been put in place. Householders in the effected area and roads will be spoken to by Police Officers in respect of the planned evacuation. People living in the immediate area of Bluebell Woods, are requested to evacuate their homes from 06:00hrs Sunday 18th August and residents within a 300 metre radius of the route are asked to evacuate their homes from 08:00hrs in order to allow the safe movement of the weapon to Fermain Bay. It is anticipated that the operation will be complete by late Sunday morning, and residents will be able to return to their properties from midday. Further announcements will be made through the local media, and also through the Guernsey Police Facebook page. Refreshment facilities will be available at St Martins Community Centre during the period of the evacuation. In addition, a telephone number of 719421 is available for residents who require further information.
