EVANSVILLE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT PLANS FOR A NOVEMBER OPERATIONAL REFERENDUM On July 16, 2014, the Board of Education unanimously voted to place two referendum questions on the November 4, 2014, election ballot. This decision comes after many months of discussion at the School Board level. The two referendum questions will ask taxpayers if they favor increasing property taxes for the purpose of funding curriculum programs and technology initiatives, as well as enhancing building safety/security and maintaining School District facilities. Over the next few months, the District will inform the community about the referendum. Communications will include sharing the work of the Community Advisory Committee (CAC). The CAC was formed last September by the School Board and was given direction to investigate current and future needs of the District. Their work included researching and reviewing information related to all aspects of operating a successful school district. The work of the CAC concluded with a recommendation to the School Board to move forward with an operational referendum. There will be many opportunities for community members to learn more about the referendum, but more importantly, there will be many opportunities to learn about the history of the District, the needs of the District, and the future direction of the District. Please engage in the referendum process. The School Board is committed to educating the taxpayers so that they are empowered to make an informed decision on November 4, 2014.
